The Centre for Imaging Technology Commercialization (CIMTEC) is a health-related research and laboratory organization located in the Old North neighbourhood at the Robarts Research Institute. CIMTEC offers a combination of imaging expertise and business advice, which it distinguishes by providing these services under an ISO-13485 certification required by regulatory authorities. Its offerings include investment in promising early-stage companies, the licensing of unique technologies, and support for projects such as prototype development, hardware and software creation, and post-market clinical validation studies. The organization has supported over 60 companies in developing numerous products for use in Canada, the United States, and Europe. As a not-for-profit corporation, CIMTEC is supported by the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR), an organization dedicated to translating cancer research into patient treatments. While the Centre operates as a not-for-profit, it owns a for-profit subsidiary called CIMTEC Medical Inc. (CMI), which handles potentially profitable fee-for-service or licensing engagements. Both entities operate under the CIMTEC brand name.
