Cheshire is a non-profit, government-funded health organization located on Elias Street in the Smokestack District of London. It serves adults with significant physical disabilities and frail seniors throughout London and the surrounding Elgin, Middlesex, Huron, Oxford, and Perth Counties. The organization provides person-centred support designed to help individuals live independently and with dignity in their own homes. Its primary services are delivered through two main programs: Community Assisted Living and Attendant Outreach. Community Assisted Living offers scheduled and unscheduled support for high-risk seniors or adults with physical disabilities, while Attendant Outreach provides scheduled assistance with daily activities. Additionally, Cheshire offers health and wellness services including nutrition, personal, social, and palliative supports, as well as prevention, early intervention, and self-management services. The LEGHO (Let's Go Home) program specifically assists seniors and adults with physical disabilities transitioning from the hospital to home or those visiting the emergency department with needs related to social determinants of health. Founded in 1978 to address housing and attendant service needs in the London area, Cheshire has been operating since 1979. It is a member of the Leonard Cheshire Global Alliance, which includes over 200 homes and services in 50 countries. The organization describes its approach as being rooted in the Independent Living Philosophy, focusing on high-quality support that treats every person with respect.
