City Art Centre

About City Art Centre

City Art Centre is an arts and community venue located on King Street in the downtown area of London. It serves as a safe and respectable space for individuals aged 18 and older who self-identify as living with mental health challenges, as well as their close friends and family members. The center offers a variety of resources to support the creative process, including free art supplies, peer support, and encouragement. Members are able to explore a wide range of styles, forms, and techniques to express their feelings through various art media. The organization describes its mission as providing a space where self-direction and peer support elevate the creative spirit to enhance quality of life. The organization was established in February 1992 by a small group of people with experience in mental health services who identified with the emerging Consumer/Survivor movement. They founded the center to address a shared need for a secure environment for artistic expression. While the membership criteria have shifted over the years to be more inclusive, the core focus remains on providing a supportive environment where healing can follow the expression of feelings through art. No appointments are required to visit.
