About Gardner Galleries

Gardner Galleries is a specialty retail business and auction house located on Hamilton Road in London, Ontario. Serving local residents and a global audience of collectors and dealers, it is recognized as London’s longest-running auction house and the oldest auction firm in Canada under continuous family ownership. The business traces its origins back to 1922, when George Gardner conducted his first auction in the city. The gallery offers a wide variety of auction categories, including fine art, collectibles, antiques, and furniture. Their fine art auctions feature works by notable artists such as A.Y. Jackson, Florence Carlyle, Jack Bush, and Salvador Dali, as well as Indigenous carvings and estate collections. The collectibles and decorative arts categories include items like antique clocks, art glass, sports memorabilia, vintage toys, and first edition books by authors such as Alice Munro and Salman Rushdie. Additionally, they auction fine furnishings such as Krug oak chairs, Persian and Tibetan rugs, and various figurines from brands like Royal Doulton and Moorcroft. The company has been managed by four generations of the Gardner family. Jason Gardner purchased the first permanent auction house in 1960, while his son Grant Gardner specialized the business in estate furnishings and fine art. The current leadership consists of James and Mark Gardner, who are accredited through the Canadian Association of Personal Property Appraisers. They are currently introducing the fifth generation of the family to the business. While the gallery maintains a tradition of live auctions, it also provides online auctions for those seeking convenience or broader exposure. All online auctions are available for in-person viewing at their renovated Art Deco building on Hamilton Road.
