About Neighbourhood Legal Services London and Middlesex

Neighbourhood Legal Services (London & Middlesex) is a non-profit community legal clinic located in the downtown area of London on Richmond Street. It serves low-income residents of London and Middlesex County, providing traditional poverty law services. The clinic is funded by the government of Ontario through Legal Aid Ontario and is managed by a volunteer board of directors. The clinic offers legal advice, referrals, and, in some instances, legal representation. Specific areas of law they assist with include Ontario Works (OW), the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), Canadian Pension Plan (CPP), WSIB, employment matters such as wrongful dismissal, and landlord and tenant disputes. They also provide affidavits and notary services for specific needs, such as OSAP affidavits, subsidized housing applications, and government office forms. Additionally, the clinic provides free summary legal advice for tenants with matters before the Landlord and Tenant Board through its Tenant Duty Counsel program, which is available via telephone. The organization is committed to public legal education, law reform, and community development. It has been involved in these initiatives since opening in 1986. The clinic is designated to provide services in both English and French and is physically accessible for persons with disabilities. They also offer interpretation services upon request. In 2016, the clinic joined an initiative to improve access to justice for the First Nations, Inuit, and Metis community through the Aboriginal Justice Project.
