About Western University

Western University is a university located in London, Ontario, serving a community of students, faculty, and staff. The institution provides a wide range of academic and community services, including research initiatives in fields such as medicine, neuroscience, and chemistry. Specific projects include the development of a "digital brain" using video games, research into patient outcomes for high potassium, and studies on how gold jewelry can dissolve under certain conditions. The university also hosts events like Homecoming and provides health education for young readers through the Kids Health Shelf initiative. The university's news outlet, Western News, was established in 1972 by the Department of University Relations and Information. It was founded with the goal of providing professional journalistic coverage of the campus community, maintaining full editorial independence from the university administration. The publication has evolved from a weekly print edition into an exclusively online news source that features research highlights, expert commentary, and community news. Western University also emphasizes sustainability, having been recognized in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings for its commitment to ecological diversity and sustainable practices.
