Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is a health and safety and insurance organization located in the Trafalgar Heights neighbourhood on Tartan Drive. It serves businesses and workers across Ontario, covering over five million people in more than 300,000 workplaces. The organization describes its mission as reducing the impact of workplace illness and injury on people and businesses by providing wage-loss benefits, medical coverage, and support to help individuals recover and safely return to work. The WSIB offers a variety of services for both employers and injured workers. For businesses, it provides registration and coverage, premium reporting and payments, account maintenance, and business audits. It also offers resources such as the Employer Classification Manual, the Business Safety Portal, and the Health and Safety Excellence program. For injured or ill people, the organization provides benefits, return-to-work resources, and specific programs of care for mental health and musculoskeletal issues. Additionally, it provides health care information, first aid training programs, and support for workplace fatalities. With a history spanning over 100 years, the WSIB is one of the largest insurance organizations in North America. It was funded by premiums paid by Ontario businesses to provide no-fault collective liability insurance. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors that sets strategic direction, while a leadership team oversees the implementation of the Strategic Plan. To maintain transparency, the WSIB provides corporate reports and results to demonstrate its public value.
